Can you tackle this problem or you have to adapt yourself to this speed? In fact, there are many people who think that it is necessary to change their computers when they start running slowly because this problem cannot be solved, but this is not true. There are several factors that are responsible for slowing down your computer and to make your computer run fast as it was doing before, you have to discover these factors and try to solve them. Instead of purchasing a new computer and throwing or selling the slow one that you have, take a look at the tips that are presented to you here to solve your problem, make your computer run faster and save money.
♦ Get rid of the unnecessary programs
Most of the new computers come with unnecessary programs that are installed without being needed to be used. You can get rid of such programs that will never be used by uninstalling them. Make sure that the programs which you remove are unused and will not be needed. Leave the programs that are needed by your computer’s hardware and do not remove them.
♦ Remove the temporary files
The different tasks that you perform every day on your computer lead to storing several temporary files on your hard disk which consumes a large space. Removing these temporary files including cookies and internet history can increase the free space on your hard disk making it easy for you to perform different tasks faster.
My Computer → Drive C → Windows → Temp.
♦ Increase the storage space
When you find that the used space on your hard drive is over 85%, you have to increase the free space by removing temporary files and unnecessary programs. You may find that after removing all of these programs and files that your computer is still running slowly and the used space on the hard drive is still large. If such a thing happens to you, you will need to get another hard drive with a larger storage space that suits your needs.
♦ Stop running the unnecessary programs during startup
There are several programs that start running during startup and this is responsible for slowing down your computer, using its memory and taking a long time to startup. To solve this problem, you have to stop running these unnecessary programs to make your computer startup faster.
Start → Run → type “msconfig” → press OK → choose “Startup” tab → deselect all the programs that you do not need to run during startup.
♦ Add more RAM
Performing different tasks at the same time and using several programs requires having a large temporary storage memory which is commonly known as RAM (Random Access Memory). If you find that your computer runs slowly while using several programs at the same time, you have to add more RAM to make your computer run faster.
♦ Defragment files
This may sound difficult for you, but it is easy to be done. Defragmenting files on the hard disk drives of your computer helps in storing information on your hard drive more efficiently.
My Computer → right-click on one of the hard disk drives → choose “Properties” → Tools → Defragment Now.
♦ Disk Cleanup
By running disk cleanup, you will be able to free more space on your hard drive. Start → All Programs → Accessories → System Tools → Disk Cleanup.
♦ Clean your computer
It may be thought to be ineffective and there are many people who believe that having closed computers means that they are clean and do not have dust to be removed. This is not true as dust is capable of slowing down your computer and may also prevent you from running different programs efficiently. You have to bear in mind that your computer should be switched off (at least 30 minutes before cleaning) and the cables should also be disconnected to avoid any problems.
Other tips include installing a solid state drive, empty recycle bin and creating a static IP address for your computer instead of obtaining it automatically.
