Everyone wants a beautifully decorated bedroom, but usually, have no clue where to start. There are so many elements that go into decorating and personalizing your bedroom. You want it to look nice, but to also be reflective of who you are and have a bit of your personality in it as well, right?
Decisions, decisions…picking out the right color and bedding can all be overwhelming but have no fear. We’re going to make a checklist of what to consider when decorating your bedroom.
Plan Everything Out
Please don’t even think about decorating your bedroom without sitting down and formulating a plan on what you exactly want. We tend to do that a lot.
If you’re out shopping and see something you like, you’ll go ahead and buy it, only to discover when it’s time to decorate, that the item doesn’t go with the design plan you currently have, or you buy something and imagine what it will look like when everything is put together. Those reasons alone are why it’s so important to plan your design out. When planning, this is what you would want to consider:
- What design style do you like (rustic, modern, Hollywood glam, etc.)?
- The layout of the room (where the windows and doors are, type of floors, how much room you’re working with, and electrical outlet locations)
- Physical Room Changes;
- Is there anything or part in the room that you want to change or remove? If there is, then this is something you want to do before the actual decorating process begins.
- Ripping up a carpet and replacing it with hardwood floors, or adding recessed lighting are major aesthetic changes that can change the design of the entire room. So, this is something you will need to figure out first.
Take your time and put some thought into the planning process because it will save you time and possibly money, going into it knowing exactly what you want. Remember, your stylish and fashionable bedroom starts with you.
Bedroom Decorating Tips
1 Focal Point
For the most part, your bed is typically your focal point, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. It depends on the layout of your bedroom. A focal point can be an accent wall, a fireplace, or a chandelier. My favorite focal point is a chandelier hanging over the bed. It just adds so much class to the bedroom.
You’ll want to decide what you want your focal point to be and elaborate on that. Your focal point will need to be something that your eyes immediately go to when you walk in the room.
2 Bedding
The bedding in your bedroom sets the tone for the entire room. All your decorations and design ideas will come from your bed.
Your bed being where you spend a good time relaxing or sleeping, it should be of high quality, not only for looks but comfort as well.
Luxury bedding and decor are a must have when decorating for style and comfort. Try to stay away from the bedding that comes in a bag where everything matches. There’s nothing wrong with stepping outside the box and adding a pop of color in your design.
Bedding that displays different textures and patterns are a sign of how far the bedding design and style have become on the creativity scale. We’ve all grown accustomed to matching everything because it’s what our mothers taught us, and their mothers taught them. However, it’s a new day and age; we’re beyond the matchy and walking a little closer to mismatching!
3 Color Scheme
Pick out a color scheme that is true to you and matches your personality. If you’re someone who likes to wear bold colors and prints, then your bedroom should be reflective of that.
Nothing can be worse, and probably more annoying than knowing your style has more of reserved, neutral colors feel to it and coming home to paisley prints and bold colors. Remember, your bedroom is a reflection of you, and the effort you put into it. So, you might as well make it your happy place.
4 Knick-Knacks
Majority of the time, your knick-knacks are the last things to make your bedroom complete. They’re the cherry on top.
These come into play after everything else is in place. You’ve planned everything out; you have your bed and bedding, your color scheme, and your focal point. Now, it’s time to add those finishing touches.
This is when you can get really creative. Adding fun artwork to walls, pretty vases, and placing candles in right spots to add the perfect ambiance to the room is what complete your room.
